BBC honours global women fighting for gender justice in 2023

The BBC has revealed a list of 100 inspiring and influential women from around the world for 2023.

The list, now in its 12th year, includes women who are leading the fight for gender justice, from climate activists to human rights defenders, and from politicians to sports stars.

Among the women featured on the list are:

* **Malala Yousafzai**, the Pakistani activist for female education who was shot by the Taliban in 2012
* **Greta Thunberg**, the Swedish climate activist who has inspired millions of people to take action on climate change
* **Michelle Yeoh**, the Malaysian actress who became the first Asian woman to win the Best Actress Oscar
* **Samar Badawi**, the Saudi Arabian human rights activist who was jailed for defying the male guardianship system
* **Dina Asher-Smith**, the British sprinter who is the fastest woman in the UK

The women on the list were selected by a panel of judges from around the world, including BBC journalists, academics, and activists.

The judges said that they were inspired by the women’s stories of courage, resilience, and determination.

“These women are all making a difference in the world, and they are an inspiration to us all,” said BBC director-general Tim Davie.

“The BBC is proud to celebrate their achievements and to share their stories with the world.”
