Uh huh, life’s like this. Canadian punk singer-songwriter Avril Lavigne, who is fresh off her breakup with ex-fiancé Mod Sun, made a statement at Paris Fashion Week. It’s a fashion statement, but also a pretty explicit statement about the end of her engagement to the American singer.
On Tuesday, February 28, Lavigne shared photos of herself on Instagram wearing Vetements’ Hidden Message blazer. The blazer is embroidered with text including “unbreak my heart,” “trust your instincts,” and “be patient good things take time.” It retails for $3,812. Hefty price tag, clear message. See the images of Avril in the jacket on her IG grid.
Then on Wednesday, March 1, the “Sk8r Boi” singer attended the Courrèges show in another Vetements piece with a message. The oversized black tee reads: “I’m not doing shit today.” (And neither am I—besides writing this.) Lavigne paired the tee with thigh-high boots and a floor-length wool coat (in all black, of course). She wore her shoulder-length blonde hair in messy waves and a middle part, and topped the look with dramatic black winged eyeliner and matte lipstick.
Avril Lavigne has perfectly demonstrated the true power of fashion, which can communicate what you’re thinking and how you’re feeling. And it doesn’t even have to be that…sorry to say it…complicated!
Lavigne and Mod Sun were engaged for about a year, per , before they announced their breakup last week. In a post shared on Instagram on Tuesday, Mod Sun wrote, “n 1 week my entire life completely changed…I just know there’s a plan for it all. I’ll keep my head up + always listen to my heart, even when it feels broken 💔 Being surrounded by love every night on tour has been an absolute blessing. I have the best friends in the entire world, thanks for always having my back. See you on stage.”
