In case you hadn’t noticed, Kate Middleton is deep into her power-suit era. We haven’t seen a flippy coat dress or a pleated skirt in months. These days it’s all about the boss-lady blazer, and this monochromatic forest green number may be her best look yet.
For her visit to some family-owned textile mills in the north of England, the Princess of Wales suited up in a fitted green blazer and fashionable wide-leg trousers, with pointed-toe green pumps to match. In lieu of the simple white tee she often pairs with her suits, this time she wore a white silk blouse and added a medium-chunky gold chain necklace and ladylike hoops to complement the tortoise-shell buttons of the jacket.
The suit’s emerald color is perfect for fall, while the tailoring is both reserved and fashion-forward. In short, we love this look for Princess Kate.
The pantsuit seems to have replaced her former uniform of Alexander McQueen and vintage-inspired coat- and shirtdresses. Just a week prior the princess wore a similar wide-leg style suit in tan on a visit to a youth-focused charity in London. Before that, she was seen visiting the Royal Naval Air Station in an appropriately military-inspired double-breasted navy suit with cigarette trousers and block-heel pumps. Her other September ’fits have included the oversized blazer she wore to visit a children’s “forest school” and a fitted navy blue suit to tour the HMP High Down prison.
It was said that Queen Elizabeth II preferred skirts and dresses to trousers and suits, so perhaps Kate Middleton is simply taking advantage of this opportunity to modernize the royal dress code. Baby steps, you know?
