Florals? For autumn? Yes, please. Selena Gomez accepted her Billboard Music Award in a crocheted flower dress from Oscar de la Renta that’s so pretty and youthful, and actually looks pretty comfy!
Gomez won in the Afrobeats category for “Calm Down,” her collaboration with African artist Rema. In her pretaped acceptance speech, Gomez said, “Hi, Billboard! Thank you guys so, so much for this award. This is honestly Rema’s doing. He chose me to be a part of such an incredible song. So I want to thank him and thank all of you for streaming and listening and I wish we could be there. But thank you!”
These are the first words we’ve heard from Selena Gomez in a minute, as the singer, actor, and Rare Beauty founder has stepped back from social media following criticism of her silence on the war in the Middle East. “I’ve been taking a break from social media because my heart breaks to see all of the horror, hate, violence, and terror that’s going on in the world,” Gomez wrote on October 30. “We need to protect ALL people, especially children, and stop the violence for good. I’m sorry if my words will never be enough for everyone or a hashtag. I just can’t stand by innocent people getting hurt. That’s what makes me sick. I wish I could change the world. But a post won’t.” Maybe not the most inspiring message, but she has a point!
Anyway, back to fashion. The halter minidress currently retails for $3,690, but if that’s a bit outside your budget, you can check out our guide to shopping the crochet trend here. And here’s a full look at the mini, since Gomez is only seen from the waist up in her acceptance video:
Oscar de la Renta is also the brand Gomez and her stylist Erin Walsh chose for this year’s VMAs, selecting a sexy little red number we loved:
She’s truly been all about florals lately, and it’s nice to see her shake it up with a knit instead of going for another shiny beaded look.
