Movie premieres are my favorite red-carpet events for fashion moments, because the dress code can range from semiformal Halloween party to full-on Met Gala. In the case of Priyanka Chopra Jonas at the New York City screening of her new rom-com Love Again on May 3, it was the latter.
Chopra walked the carpet in the kind of gown it takes several assistants to operate. The star’s baby blue dress had an exaggerated mermaid silhouette, with an oversized trumpet skirt and an almost equally voluminous off-the-shoulder cowl. As if this wasn’t enough drama, the dress also had an enormous bow detail in the back that ended in a short train.
It was enough dress to make even her famously large costar Sam Heughan—best known for playing the hunky 18th-century Scottish warrior on Outlander—look average-sized. Chopra also posed for pictures with her husband, Nick Jonas, who also appears in the film and looked dashing, if considerably more understated, in a gray suit.
Understandably, it doesn’t look like Chopra wore the high-glam, low-mobility gown for the entire night. After the screening she and Jonas were seen arriving at Sona restaurant in Manhattan’s Flatiron district for a little post-premiere date night. This time she wore a velvety pink dress with decorative cutouts and knot details. She paired the romantic dress with a playfully girly heart-shaped purse.
It seems like Chopra and Jonas had as much fun filming the movie as they did at its New York City screening. Recounting to People about one moment when she was supposed to shoot a make-out scene with “a random actor,” Priyanka Chopra said her husband gallantly stepped in to ease her discomfort. “During COVID, having someone just lick my face, I was not about it,” she explained. “So I was like, ‘Please, Nick, could you do it?’ And he was such a sport.”
