There are trousers, and then there are trousers—and Amanda Seyfried’s are the latter.
The Dropout actor attended Variety’s Power of Women event in NYC on May 5 wearing an Oscar de la Renta monochromatic aqua two-piece set consisting of a mock-neck short-sleeve sweater and pleated wide-leg trousers.
The flow of the trousers gives the illusion of a maxi skirt, but don’t be fooled. Structured at the top and sitting just under the bust, the trousers appear to have corset-like boning, or at least thick, sturdy pleats. The super-wide leg makes Seyfried appear at least 5’10”. (According to Google, she’s actually 5’2″.)
Her honey-blonde hair was parted in the middle and styled in loose waves, while she kept her makeup fresh with a fuchsia lip (a nice complement to the aqua) and full brows.
Seyfried accepted her honor with an introduction from her friend, comedian Sarah Silverman. She also used her time on stage to advocate for the International Network for Aid, Relief and Assistance (INARA), a nonprofit that “works with children from conflict areas who have suffered physical and mental harm,” according to the organization’s website.
In her speech, the Mamma Mia! actor spoke not only about the need to support refugees, but about the recent news that the Supreme Court has voted to overturn . “Women’s safety and security, as we have just been reminded, is far too often negotiable,” she said. “And it’s not negotiable to me.”
“There’s no better moment, not just to celebrate the power of us women, but to use it,” she continued. “In these very desperate times where theocrats are diligently working to eradicate our most basic right, we need to be the unstoppable force that creates and sustains community and who make the future better than the present.”
The Jennifer’s Body actor also recognized the work of her friend Arwa Damon, founder of INARA and a senior international correspondent for CNN. “It is her passion, her dedication, her fearlessness, that has inspired me and inspired so many people.”
Amanda Seyfried was joined fellow honorees including Drew Barrymore, Camila Cabello, Kim Cattrall, Queen Latifah, and Venus Williams, as well as celebrities like Emily Ratajkowski, J. Smith Cameron, and Jimmy Fallon.
