Serving on and off the court. Coco Gauff, newly crowned winner of the US Open, celebrated her victory with a party and, more important, a party dress.
Gauff and her guests partied at a swanky hotel in the young player’s hometown of Delray Beach, Florida, with cake and flowers and so many pics, some of which Gauff posted to her Instagram with the caption “Me n only SOME of my favorite people 💖.”
Gauff may have been celebrating with “only some” of her favorite people, and she was certainly with only some of her supporters. When the teenager made it to the finals of the US Open, she earned a legion of celebrity fans, who were not shy about their emotional reactions to her matches.
Such a well-deserved win after years and years of training, which takes its toll even when you succeed. As Coco Gauff wrote a few years ago in a personal essay, “Right before Wimbledon, going back to around 2017/18, I was struggling to figure out if this was really what I wanted. I always had the results so that wasn’t the issue, I just found myself not enjoying what I loved. I realized I needed to start playing for myself and not other people. For about a year I was really depressed…It took many moments sitting, thinking and crying. I came out of it stronger and knowing myself better than ever. Everyone asks me how I stay calm on court and I think it’s because I accepted who I am after overcoming low points in my life. Now, when I’m on court, I am just really thankful to be out there.” And we are thankful that you are!
