The double dress—that is, layering one dress on top of another—may sound on paper like a style eccentricity. Until Irina Shayk arrived at New York Fashion Week on September 11 to prove that it is possible. Just add the right shoes to ground the look, as Shayk did with a pair of Adidas Samba sneakers.
The model paired a leopard print slip dress that reaches to the bottom with a looser one-shoulder black number. The result? Irina Shayk’s double dress is the perfect combination of wild spirit with the more rigorous all-black uniform that the model typically wears.
And by adding the most common and trendy sneaker of recent seasons, Shayk grounds the unexpectedness of seeing a combination of dresses (or one design made to look like two). The model also kept the rest of her accessories neutral for the same effect, with sunglasses, a bucket hat, and a structured crossbody bag all in black.
